The F.O.B. is a veteran-led recovery, wellness, reintegration, and community support center located in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Built by veterans for veterans, The F.O.B. exists to provide a safe, welcoming, and structured environment where veterans, their families, and community partners can connect, heal, grow, and move forward together. More than just a building, The F.O.B. is a thriving community. Inside, veterans can work out in our gym and boxing area, participate in peer support, attend recovery meetings, enjoy gaming and recreation, connect over coffee, learn new skills, work on projects, attend classes, and build meaningful relationships with others who understand the challenges of military service and life after service. The F.O.B. is intentionally maintained as an alcohol-free, drug-free, tobacco-free, vape-free, and gambling-free environment focused on stability, accountability, wellness, and long-term success. Suicide prevention is foundational to everything we do. Our mission is to reduce isolation, strengthen connections, promote physical and mental wellness, support recovery, and ensure that no veteran has to face life’s challenges alone. The F.O.B. serves as a collaborative hub where veteran organizations, service providers, community partners, volunteers, and advocates can come together under one roof to better serve veterans throughout Northeast Indiana and Northwest Ohio. Additionally, initiatives like K9 Corp enhance our support for veterans, offering unique companionship and assistance. Whether you’re looking for support, friendship, fitness, purpose, resources, volunteer opportunities, or simply a place to belong, you’ll find a seat at the table here.
One K9 Corporation is a Fort Wayne-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing veteran suicide and improving the lives of veterans and their families through peer recovery support, resource navigation, community partnerships, and evidence-informed recovery support services. Guided by the philosophy of “Veterans Helping Veterans,” One K9 develops innovative programs that address the social, behavioral, and practical challenges veterans face after military service while connecting veterans and their families to healthcare, behavioral health, housing, employment, recovery resources, Veteran benefits, and other community-based supports.
Its flagship initiative, the Forward Operating Base (F.O.B.), is a veteran-led, community-based peer recovery and recovery support center serving veterans, including justice-involved veterans and veterans recovering from opioid and other substance use disorders, and their families. The F.O.B. provides a safe, substance-free environment where veterans engage in peer recovery support, recovery navigation, fitness and wellness programming, workforce development, family engagement, harm reduction, overdose prevention education, and community reintegration.
Rather than serving as a clinical treatment provider, the F.O.B. complements treatment by helping veterans build healthy routines, reduce social isolation, strengthen recovery capital, and remain engaged in long-term recovery. Through trusted peer relationships and strong partnerships with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs, behavioral health providers, Veteran Service Organizations, and other community partners, the F.O.B. connects veterans with treatment, recovery services, housing, employment, transportation, benefits, and other wraparound supports that promote lasting recovery, successful reintegration, and improved quality of life.
At the Forward Operating Base, recovery is the mission; recreation is the engagement strategy. Peer relationships build trust, trust opens the door to recovery, and recovery creates pathways to employment, stable housing, healthier families, successful reintegration, and renewed purpose.

It is about witnessing the habits that create success:

The F.O.B. (Forward Operating Base) is proud to host the Veterans Round Table, bringing together veterans, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs (IDVA), community organizations, caregivers, family members, advocates, and local partners for a focused discussion on how we can better serve those who served our nation. The Veterans Round Table is more than just a meeting; it is an opportunity for organizations, agencies, and community leaders to sit at the same table, share resources, identify challenges, build partnerships, and develop solutions that strengthen support for veterans across Northeast Indiana. Veterans often face complex challenges involving healthcare, benefits, housing, employment, mental health, recovery, transportation, legal services, family support, and community reintegration. No single organization can solve every problem alone. The purpose of the Round Table is to create stronger communication, collaboration, and outcomes by bringing everyone together in one room. Hosted at The F.O.B., this event reflects our belief that veterans succeed when communities work together. By connecting government agencies, nonprofit organizations, community partners, and veterans themselves, we create opportunities to share knowledge, eliminate barriers, and improve access to services and support. Participants can expect: • Updates from veteran-serving organizations • Resource sharing and networking opportunities • Discussion of veteran challenges and community needs • Collaboration between VA, IDVA, and community partners • Opportunities to build new partnerships • Veteran and family engagement • Community-driven problem solving • Strengthened regional support networks. At The F.O.B., we believe that connection saves lives. The Veterans Round Table exists to strengthen relationships between organizations and the veterans they serve. When agencies communicate, when partners collaborate, and when veterans know where to turn for help, entire communities become stronger. Sometimes the most important mission is not creating a new program; sometimes it is bringing the right people together around the same table. Focus Areas include Veteran Services, Community Collaboration, Resource Coordination, Family Support, Caregiver Support, Mental Wellness, Veteran Reintegration, Community Engagement, and Suicide Prevention Through Connection. The Training Center combines physical fitness, boxing, martial arts, peer support, recovery-focused programming, and community engagement under one roof. The F.O.B. Garage Program is one of the most powerful aspects of the entire Forward Operating Base concept. This is not just a garage; it is a hands-on training environment where veterans can rebuild confidence, learn practical skills, work with tools, restore vehicles, maintain equipment, and reconnect with purpose through real-world work. The garage side of The F.O.B. includes vehicle bays, a lift, work benches, tools, shop equipment, restoration space, and equipment used for hands-on learning. Veterans can gain experience with mechanical basics, maintenance, troubleshooting, vehicle restoration, small equipment repair, safety practices, work discipline, and project-based teamwork. The goal is simple: building skills, restoring purpose, and rebuilding futures. For many veterans, working with their hands is therapeutic. A garage creates structure, focus, and provides a task, a tool, a problem to solve, and a reason to keep showing up. That matters. The Garage Program supports: Mechanical training, workforce development, vehicle restoration, equipment maintenance, shop safety, tool familiarity, mentorship, peer engagement, justice diversion support, recovery support, confidence building, and career readiness. This program gives veterans and participants a place to learn by doing. Instead of sitting in a classroom only talking about next steps, they can stand at a workbench, turn a wrench, restore a vehicle, fix equipment, and see progress in front of them. That kind of progress is powerful. A project that starts as a broken car, an old machine, or a pile of parts becomes a visible reminder that things can be repaired, rebuilt, and brought back to life. For veterans working through trauma, addiction recovery, unemployment, isolation, or justice involvement, that message is real. The F.O.B. Garage Program is also a natural bridge into employment. Participants can build work habits, learn basic mechanical skills, develop discipline, practice teamwork, and gain confidence in a real shop environment. It creates a pathway from instability to capability, from isolation to brotherhood, and from surviving to contributing. This is veterans helping veterans in a practical, meaningful way. No ego, no wrong door, and no one turned away. The F.O.B. Garage Program exists to help veterans rebuild more than machines; it helps rebuild strength, purpose, confidence, and futures. Additionally, the K9 Corp often collaborates with The F.O.B. to provide support for veterans, enhancing the overall experience and fostering a sense of community.

The F.O.B. is a veteran-led recovery, wellness, reintegration, and community support center located in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
